ACL to acquire Elliott Bay Design Group

(JEFFERSONVILLE, IN — September 27, 2007) American Commercial Lines Inc. (ACL) has reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG), a naval architecture and marine engineering firm with offices in Seattle and New Orleans.
 
With approximately 2,750 employees, ACL will incorporate about 60 architects, engineers, designers, and support personnel from EBDG into its team.

ACL is an integrated marine transportation and service company headquartered in Jefferson, Ind. Its operations include Jeffboat, the second largest builder of barges in the United States.

Rich Mitchell,  an ACL senior vice president, said, “We are very pleased to add Elliott Bay Design Group LLC’s professional design and engineering team to the ACL family.  Elliott Bay Design Group LLC will significantly enhance the design of equipment we build and operate in the future and will provide a valuable resource to help our customers solve their transportation issues through new vessel design and engineering.”

John Waterhouse, president of Elliott Bay Design Group LLC, said that the acquisition will “expand our ability to deliver high levels of service, offering new tools to improve our clients’ operating margins and to reduce environmental impacts.”

The transaction is expected to close before the end of the year.
