Tanker crewman airlifted after eye injury off Florida

The following is a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(TAMPA, Fla.) — Coast Guard crews medevaced a man Saturday 250 miles southwest of Tampa. 

The 23-year-old male suffered an eye injury Friday while aboard the 820-foot tanker Georgy Maslov.

Coast Guard 7th District Command Center watch standers received a report of the injury at 8 a.m. Saturday. Watch standers launched an Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter air crew and an HC-130 Hercules search plane air crew at 1:20 p.m. 

The man was hoisted and delivered to Tampa General Hospital at 5:29 p.m.
