(BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala.) — Master Boat Builders has delivered Cape Ann, a new articulated tug-barge (ATB) tugboat, to Kirby Offshore of Houston.
The 109-by-36-foot boat, designed by Guarino & Cox of Covington, La., has a steel hull and an aluminum tower. It is powered by a pair of Tier 4 Caterpillar 3516E diesel engines, producing 2,501 hp at 1,600 rpm, connected to 120-by-78-inch, five-blade stainless-steel propellers through Reintjes WAF 1173 marine gears with 7.429:1 reduction ratios. The new tug has a running speed of 13 knots and a bollard pull of 48 metric tons.
Ship service power is provided three John Deere 6068AFM85 150-kW gensets. Rio Controls & Hydraulics provided the five-station propulsion controls.
Cape Ann also has a Beacon Findland JAK-400PHL-L Hydralok coupling system, New World Electronics 2518277554 electronics suite, two Coastal Marine Equipment C14-3.5-61-131 35,000-pound capstans, and an EMS PMS 9000 alarm and monitoring system with a tank level system. There are six staterooms with 10 berths.
The tug is ABS classed Maltese Cross A-1, AMS, Towing Vessel, ABCU, UWILD, ABS Loadline, greater than 500 tons ITC and greater than 300 tons regulatory. It is also built to U.S. Coast Guard-certified Subchapter M standards.Edit Module
