Second barge removed from John C. Stennis Lock and Dam

(COLUMBUS, Miss.) — Salvage crews on Wednesday removed the second of two barges that became lodged against the John C. Stennis Lock and Dam nearly three weeks ago, The Dispatch reported. River Salvage Co. of Pittsburgh, Pa., removed the first barge on Tuesday. Removal of the second barge, which was partially submerged, was more complicated and involved six hours of pumping and welding to seal leaks. The barges broke loose from the Raymond D. Lucas Memorial Port in Clay County on Dec. 26 following heavy rains.
