(LOS ANGELES) — By mid-century, ordinary ships will be able to sail across the Arctic without the aid of icebreakers, Science Daily reported. In the first comprehensive study of future trans-Arctic shipping, researchers estimate that significant shipping lanes will open up in the Arctic Ocean as climate change warms the region. Icebreakers may even be able to blaze a lane through the heart of the North Pole, according to the study at UCLA.
