Report: Drunk drawbridge operator lowered Detroit bridge onto ore carrier

(DETROIT) — The operator of a drawbridge that crashed down onto an ore carrier was drunk, the Detroit News newspaper reported. The Herbert C. Jackson had moderate damage after the Jefferson Avenue Bridge was lowered and struck the vessel as it was transiting the Rouge River. The Coast Guard said the female bridge operator was over the .08 blood-alcohol content that is the limit to operate a motor vehicle.
