(BEAUMONT, Texas) — The U.S. Maritime Administration plans to expand the reserve fleet at Beaumont and is building four new berths there, the Beaumont Enterprise newspaper reported. The agency is spending $34.6 million on the project, which will result in new docks that are 1,000 feet long. The Neches River project, which will accommodate eight more ships in the Ready Reserve Fleet, will be completed in 2014.
