Report: ‘Microburst’ doomed sailing ship Concordia off Brazil

(TORONTO) — The Canadian school ship that sank off Brazil was struck by a strong microburst, which capsized the sailing ship, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Authorities plan to interview the captain and also to find out why the Brazilian authorities waited an entire day before sending an airplane to investigate the reason the Concordia’s emergency beacon went off. The captain said the boat was lying on its side within 15 seconds of being hit by the microburst, but all 64 people were safely rescued.
