(NEW ORLEANS) — The Mississippi River has reopened to some essential shipping traffic after Wednesday’s fuel spill had forced the Coast Guard to shut down the channel, CNN reported. About 100 ships were stranded, and the closure cost the U.S. economy an estimated $275 million per day. A few oil tankers delivering crude to refineries were the first to be allowed through.
