Fire aboard Houston-bound ore carrier kills 9 off Venezuela

(CARACAS, Venezuela) — Nine Filipino and Greek mariners were killed in a fire aboard an ore carrier bound for Houston, the Houston Chronicle newspaper reported. The accident happened off Venezuela aboard the Aegean Wind. Authorities said the fire started in the mess hall of the ship, which was carrying iron ore from Brazil and is now being towed to Houston.
