Coast Guard seeks public input for waterway study in Rhode Island

(EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I.) The Coast Guard is conducting waterways analysis reviews of Narragansett Bay, R.I., (East and West passage) and Mount Hope Bay/Sakonnet River, R.I.  The waterways analysis review is used to determine the effectiveness of aids to navigation within the waterways. A public meeting will be held in Bristol, Rhode Island on July 16.
The following areas will be reviewed:

1)   Narragansett Bay (East and West Passage), Newport Harbor, Wickford Harbor, Quonset Channel, Hope Island, Allen Harbor, Greenwich Bay and Warwick Cove

2)   Mount Hope Bay, Brayton Point Channel, Taunton River, Cole River, Kickamuit River, Sakonnet River, Bristol Harbor and Tiverton Channel.

The data gathered in the analysis will be used to determine the need for altering or modifying the channel and hazard markings.  The last survey for Narragansett Bay (East and West Passage) was completed October 2000, and the last survey for Mount Hope Bay and Sakonnet River areas was completed July 1999.  This study does not include the Providence River area because a waterways study on it was completed July 2005.
