Canadian Coast Guard rescues 22 crew from burning, sinking ship

(ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland) — The Canadian Coast Guard rescued 22 crew from a burning, sinking fishing vessel, the National Post newspaper reported. The fire broke out when the Monte Galineiro was about 300 miles east of St. John’s. The cutter Leonard J. Cowley happened to be just 10 minutes away and was able to rescue all 22 crewmembers, many of whom were in the icy water as the Spanish vessel sank.
