California Maritime lists 2009 continuing ed courses online

(Vallejo, CA – January 09, 2009)•The California Maritime Academy’s Extended Learning Department has posted its catalog of continuing education programs for 2009 on-line at www.maritime-education.com/courses.html Visitors to the site can download the full catalog and/or click on individual course offerings for details on course content, costs, and locations and times of delivery. Many of the courses are offered on the school’s Vallejo campus. Others may be provided off-site or via the Internet, enabling participants to take part at times and locations convenient to their own schedules.

Cal Maritime’s expertise in maritime-related fields is reflected in many of the courses being offered, notes SPEL Dean J. Kim McNutt. “Our offerings are designed to meet the needs of professionals working in, or responding to, the maritime environment. They include:

• Company, Facility and Vessel Security Officer Training.*

• STCW – Basic Safety Training including firefighting, first aid/CPR and water survival training.

• First Responder – For public safety and other personnel who may respond to emergencies or significant events at maritime facilities within their jurisdiction such as vessels, ports and terminals.

• Radar Renewal and Exam – for personnel needing refresher certification.

• Bridge Resource Management

• Dangerous Liquids Management for Tanker Personnel.

He also noted that Cal Maritime can customize many of its courses to meet the needs of a specific group or organization and can, given sufficient demand, arrange for delivery at remote locations, or in some cases, via the Internet. “If you have training and education needs, particularly those relating to maritime subjects, contact us to review how we can work together to tailor extended learning programs specific to your needs.•bCrLf

* Cal Maritime is the only training organization in the country delivering Maritime Security Courses certified by the Coast Guard, The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as meeting the requirements of the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA), the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS), and State and Federal emergency management standards. As such, these courses are eligible for DHS grant reimbursement under the Homeland Security and Port Security Grant Programs.
