Tanker, fishing boat collide off Martha's Vineyard

(PROVIDENCE, R.I.) — A tanker inbound to Providence with a cargo of petroleum collided with a 70-foot fishing vessel Monday about 25 nautical miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, South Coast Today reported.

No one was injured in the collision between the 605-foot Iver Prosperity and the fishing boat Edna May, Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan Noel said Tuesday.

Two small punctures on the starboard quarter of the tanker were discovered during an inspection of the ship at sea, but it is unclear if the damage resulted from the collision, Noel said. The fishing vessel only suffered minor cosmetic damage. No pollution was reported.

On Tuesday morning, the cargo ship was in the Port of Providence undergoing an inspection to determine its seaworthiness.
