Bluetide Puerto Rico issues RFI for new research vessel

The following is text of a news release from Bluetide Puerto Rico (BTPR):

(SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico) — Bluetide Puerto Rico has issued a request for information (RFI) to identify potential candidates with the purpose of the development, construction and delivery of a 66-foot regional class research vessel (RCRV).

“Regarding the potential construction and delivery of regional class research vessels (RCRVs), the purpose of this RFI is to gain information like facility requirements to construct the RCRVs, including capabilities and capacity, a measure of industry interest in constructing the RCRVs, identification of shipyards to receive the RCRV request for proposals, and more,” said Rita Anglero, executive director of Bluetide.

BTPR is the first nonprofit organization established and chartered with the mission of fostering the ocean “blue economy” sectors in the U.S. Caribbean. BTPR believes that the appropriate framework and mechanisms could be established to prepare, design, and plan innovative programs to capitalize on and expand the coastal and maritime opportunities in a fully integrated and cross-collaborative manner.

Those interested in participating can obtain the RFI documents, free of charge, from July 14 through the Bluetide PR website. The deadline to submit proposals will be Friday, Aug. 14, on or before 11:59 p.m. via email.
