(OTTAWA) — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced the launch of a rigid-hull inflatable boat (RHIB) for use in Atlantic Canada. Constructed by Rosborough Boats Inc. of Beechville, Nova Scotia, M/V Bob Annand measures 33 feet in length and is 9.5 feet wide.
A first for the Atlantic Region, this boat will provide the CBSA with the year-round capability to transport a full rummage team to and from vessels at anchor, will serve as a remote operated vehicle (ROV) platform, and will facilitate Border Services officer verifications and checks of small vessels inaccessible by land arriving within the region.
The boat is named after Bob Annand, a former CBSA officer who, for 24 years, dedicated much of his career working in the CBSA marine operations. Annand passed away in 2016 but he is remembered for his dedication to the agency.
“This boat will significantly improve our operational responses in our marine environment. Having the ability to intercept and search vessels at anchor significantly increases CBSA’s ability to meet its mandate and keep Canadians safe,” said Chris Lorenz, regional director general, CBSA Atlantic Region.
