(KINGSTON, Ontario) — MetalCraft Marine has launched a 34-foot Interceptor patrol boat for the Mobile (Ala.) Police Department.

The boat was tested at speed in 4- to 5-foot chop. It has a large cabin with 6 feet 10 inches of head room, and a large aft deck to accommodate officers who wear a lot of equipment while working. The boat will spend long hours in the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay and has heating and air conditioning for a wide range of temperatures. A Westerbeke gas generator provides power.

Propulsion is provided by twin Suzuki 300-hp outboards, and there is Seastar joystick steering for docking or holding station. The noise level in the cabin at full speed was only 78 decibels at 44 knots.

The boat has a comprehensive suite of navigation electronics from Simrad and a SeaFLIR camera. Suspension seats were provided by Seats Inc. The side doors have full glass windows, and the overhead spotter windows provide excellent sightlines in hard turns.
