Former USMMA superintendent Joseph Stewart dies

(KINGS POINT, N.Y.) — The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Alumni Association and Foundation (AAF) has announced that Vice Adm. Joseph D. Stewart, superintendent of the academy from 1999-2008, passed away on April 30.

As one of USMMA's most passionate supporters, Stewart rarely missed an opportunity to advocate for Kings Point. His positive outlook on life inspired everyone he encountered – faculty, alumni, parents, and especially the midshipmen. He was inducted into USMMA's Athletic Hall of Fame and also served on the AAF's board of directors.

Stewart will be missed but always remembered. Arrangements will be communicated as soon as they become available.
