The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(HONOLULU) — A 31-year-old man from the tank vessel Barcelona Knutsen was medevaced by the Coast Guard 13 miles south of Oahu on Saturday.

At 8:27 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point hoisted the crewman aboard and safely delivered him in stable condition to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

Watch standers at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center received a request for a medevac at 7 p.m., Thursday, from the master of Barcelona Knutsen for the crewman who reportedly sustained injuries to his face while conducting maintenance on a fire extinguisher.

The vessel was approximately 575 miles south of the Big Island at the time of the request. Watch standers consulted the Coast Guard duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

Weather on scene of the initial report was 11-mph winds and 3-foot seas.
