St. Johns Ship Building moves ahead on ferries, other vessels

(PALATKA, Fla.) — St. Johns Ship Building (SJSB) announced this week that it is on schedule with both Fisher Island ferries under construction. The ferries, 152 feet by 52 feet, are designed to transport residents, guests, and their vehicles to The Fisher Island Club. Hull 88, the first Fisher Island ferry, is set for December delivery to Miami and was rolled over on May 26.

Other recent jobs at St. Johns include the delivery of 25-foot truckable tugboat, Iron Horse. This is the most recent of SJSB’s Iron series of truckable tug. The yard also had the research vessel Ocearch in dry dock for repairs before a recent expedition. SJSB is also nearing completion of another 190-foot landing craft for Caribbean cargo transportation.

SJSB recently closed a contract with Vane Brothers to convert the last two tugs of the Elizabeth Anne series to ATB-style vessels to better accommodate its existing fleet.
