Four rescued after Coast Guard boat capsizes

The following is text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(NEW ORLEANS) — The Coast Guard responded to a capsized Coast Guard vessel in Mobile Bay near Gaillard Island, Ala., on Thursday.

A 26-foot trailerable aids to navigation boat from Coast Guard Sector Mobile capsized with four crewmembers aboard while they were transiting in Mobile Bay to conduct aids to navigation operations at approximately 10:45 a.m. The crewmembers climbed aboard the vessel’s hull after it capsized. 

Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island launched a 45-foot response boat-medium boat crew and arrived on scene at 11:44 a.m. The boat crew recovered the four crewmembers and transferred them to emergency medical services, where they were then transferred to Coast Guard Sector Mobile.

All four crewmembers were wearing their life jackets.

The cause is under investigation.
