Epic Alabama acquires BAE's Southeast Shipyards

(MOBILE, Ala.) — Epic Alabama Shipyard has acquired BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards Alabama and all of its associated shipyard facilities in Mobile, Ala., Ship Technology reported. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Epic is owned by Texas-based Epic Companies, an offshore construction and decommissioning company. It provides ship repair and maintenance services at existing facilities, including the Alabama Dry Dock. The firm is currently exploring opportunities to fabricate offshore structures and newbuild barges in Mobile.

“Mobile is perfectly situated to support the maritime and energy sector, both in the Gulf of Mexico and throughout the Caribbean,” said Epic executive Rob Gilbert.

Epic Companies offers support services to the offshore energy sector, including diving, pipe laying, and plugging and abandonment of wells. The company also provides wireline and downhole well services, cutting, platform and pipeline decommissioning, in addition to the construction of offshore structures such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) offshore terminals.
