In the 27 years of this program, the Coast Guard Foundation has paid out more than $4.7 million to more than 780 college-aged young adults to help the families of Coast Guard members achieve their goals of higher education. The nonprofit’s commitment to education support has significantly grown over time and is now a primary focus of the organization.

“The brave men and women of the Coast Guard community work tirelessly to protect our way of life,” said Susan Ludwig, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “Their success relies on having a focused frame of mind, which requires the background understanding that their family back home is being taken care of. We do what we can to help these families and providing scholarships is our core method of support. We are honored to have been able to award a record 166 scholarships last year and look forward to continuing to expand the program again this year.”

For more than 45 years, the Coast Guard Foundation has supported the men and women of the United States Coast Guard. The foundation provides higher education support or scholarships to enlisted members, reservists, their spouses and their children. In addition, the foundation provides higher education financial support for families of Coast Guard members lost in the line of duty and support for morale programs including funding recreation, exercise and family-oriented facilities.
