Barge crewman airlifted after serious hand injury

The following is text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(HOUSTON) — The Coast Guard medevaced a 46-year-old man off a work barge 27 miles south of Cameron, La., on Thursday afternoon.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watch standers received a request from an representative from the salvage company Resolve Marine for the medevac of a crewmember on the work barge Conquest MB-1 who had suffered a serious injury to his hand. Watch standers notified the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene and transported the crewmember to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Chennault Airport in Lake Charles, La. 

The injured man was last reported in stable condition.
