(SWARTZ BAY, British Columbia) — Two BC Ferries crewmembers fell into the water, injuring one of them, when a davit failed on a rescue boat during a drill, the Times Colonist reported.

The failure came as the rescue boat was being retrieved Wednesday on the ferry Queen of Cumberland, a company spokeswoman said. Both crewmembers were wearing survival suits and helmets. Personnel on a boat deployed from shore pulled the two crewmembers from the water a few minutes after the accident occurred, she said.

Both crewmembers were taken to a hospital for assessment. The extent of the injuries sustained by one crewman were not known. Queen of Cumberland was taken out of service for the rest of the day, resulting in several canceled sailings.
