Two missing after towboat sinks in Tennessee

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) — The Coast Guard suspended their search Saturday for two people whose vessel sank in the Mississippi River near Memphis, Tenn.

Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River and local agency assets searched approximately 29 hours and 324 nautical miles of river.

Involved in the search were:

Sector Lower Mississippi River 29-foot response boat-small boat crew
Memphis Police Department Aviation
Memphis Police Department Harbor Patrol
Three Shelby County Sheriff’s Office vessels
Tennessee Fish and Game

“Our condolences go out to the friends and family of the missing people,” said Capt. Roxanne Tamez, commander, Sector Lower Mississippi River. “We would like to extend a special thanks to the other agencies for their support in the search effort.”

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) — The Coast Guard and local agencies are searching for two people after their vessel sank at mile marker 733 on the Mississippi River near Memphis, Tenn., on Friday.

Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River watch standers received a notification of a mayday broadcast at 11:42 a.m. of the 66-foot motor vessel Ricky Robinson owned by Wepfer Marine Inc. sinking with two people aboard.

Involved in the search are:

Sector Lower Mississippi River 29-foot response boat-small boat crew
Memphis Police Department Aviation
Memphis Police Department and Harbor Patrol
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office
