Texas refineries idle from Harvey as Coast Guard surveys shipping channels

(HOUSTON) — Refineries along the Texas coast affected by Hurricane Harvey are sitting idle while the U.S. Coast Guard surveys shipping lanes, but activity is expected to resume Tuesday, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported.

Corpus Christi refineries have ceased operations because tankers are not being allowed to enter the ship channel due to the storm, said port chairman Charlie Zahn. The Coast Guard must ensure that ships can navigate the channel without hitting underwater obstructions.

On Monday, Zahn said he believes the Coast Guard will allow ships to resume channel operations Tuesday, and there are full tankers awaiting clearance in the gulf.
