San Jacinto opens new Kongsberg simulation suite

The following is the text of a news release from San Jacinto College:

(PASADENA, Texas) — Registration is open for courses for commercial mariners at the San Jacinto College Maritime Technology and Training Center. These U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)-approved courses come with completion certificates that qualify mariners to take exams to meet current USCG regulations.

The Kongsberg Neptune Engine Room Simulation Suite has been installed and is now open for training. This simulation provides the ability to deliver Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW) – Instrumentation and Assessments and OICEW- Electrical Machinery and Basic Electronics and Assessments. This is in addition to the three Kongsberg Polaris full-mission bridge simulators. The Maritime Technology and Training Center also features a Transas NTPRO simulation suite with 24 student stations, a Transas TechSim Lab, and a Vortex full-motion crane simulator.

Courses for commercial mariners are offered throughout the year at the center. The following list includes courses starting in July and August.
