(BELLEDUNE, New Brunswick) — The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is (TSB) investigating after a bulk carrier ran aground in the Gulf of St. Lawrence on Wednesday morning, CBC News reported.
The 751-foot SBI Carioca was carrying about 65,000 metric tonnes of petcoke when it hit a shoal at the entrance of the northeastern New Brunswick village, which was its destination, shortly before 8 a.m. The ship's hull was not breached and no pollution was reported.
Two TSB investigators from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia were expected to arrive at the scene Wednesday night. The Marshall Islands-flagged bulker was sailing from Norfolk, Va.
