Inland Rivers, Ports & Terminals offers free registration to conference

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) — Inland Rivers, Ports & Terminals (IRPT) has announced that it will offer complimentary registration for manufacturers/owners of cargo/shippers/freight forwarders to its National Annual Conference in Kansas City, Mo., on Thursday, April 27.

For the first time, IRPT is inviting the above to explore how America’s rivers welcome their transport. “We understand they have many shipping options to consider using and we are inviting them to explore incorporating the inland rivers into their supply chain,” said Aimee Andres, IRPT executive director.

Inland Marine Highways move commerce to and from 38 states throughout our nation’s heartland, serve as transport ramps to industrial and agricultural centers, and facilitate imports and exports at gateway ports to the coasts. Delivering products door-to-door while incorporating inland marine highways is achievable and IRPT invites stakeholders to Kansas City to learn how.

As the nation is reaching capacity on rail systems and congestion on surface transportation is increasing transit times, many of the nation’s shippers will be looking for alternate routes for their supply chain. There is available capacity on the rivers. Our nation’s rivers deliver vital goods between major gateway ports, establish new trade networks with significant public benefits and create a foundation for future trade growth.

On April 27, IRPT topics will include:

• Maritime Administration (America’s shorts-sea routes and funding opportunities)
• International Association of Marine and Port Executives (connecting short-sea routes to international shipping routes)
• Shippers testimony on how incorporating river transportation into their supply chain affects their business
• Shipping containers by barge
• Clearing misconceptions (total all-inclusive door-to-door service including river transport, transit times and reliability)
