Fuel tankers collide off northern Newfoundland

(LEWISPORTE, Newfoundland) — The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating a collision between two coastal fuel tankers along Newfoundland's north coast that resulted in minor damage to both ships, CTV News and the Canadian Press reported.

The TSB said the tanker Travestern collided with the anchored Havelstern on Sunday. Pierre Murray, the board's manager of regional operations in Halifax, Nova Scotia, said no one was injured and nothing spilled from either ship.

The two ships were about to transfer fuel near Lewisporte when the wind picked up, Murray said. Their sterns collided and there was subsequent damage to both vessels, all of it above the waterline.
