(COPENHAGEN, Denmark) — A cyberattack targeting A.P. Moller-Maersk took down the shipping company’s information technology systems on Tuesday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.
“We can confirm that Maersk IT systems are down across multiple sites and business units due to a cyberattack,” the company announced on Twitter. “The safety of our employees, our operations and customers’ business is our top priority.”
Few details were immediately available. Several company officials also reported “intrusions at the Ukrainian power grid, banks and government offices” on Tuesday. It was unclear who was behind the attacks or whether they were all connected.
Maersk is a transport and logistics company with about 88,000 employees in 130 countries. The company is the largest containership operator and supply vessel operator globally and its vessels call a port every 15 minutes.
