(GALVESTON, Texas) — A casino yacht struck a buoy Saturday night that marks the south Galveston jetty, causing a gash along the vessel's starboard side, World Casino News reported. The Jacks or Better Casino yacht hit the buoy at about 2300 with customers on board and sustained minimal damage 18 inches above the waterline, according to the company that operates the boat. No injuries were reportedly injured on the vessel that arrived at the Galveston Yacht Basin this month and set sail for the first time on April 7.
The casino wrote on its Facebook page that the incident wasn’t the first time the buoy had been hit. This time, however, there were two buoys in area, and upon approaching the first one, the vessel’s co-captains — who together have more than 50 years of experience — said they were only able to see the second buoy, which was lined up with the first and about an eighth of a mile away.
"Both lined up so that their vision was obscured by blinding lights used to illuminate a disabled ship," the company said. "A blind spot was created and it was too late to avoid a brush with the marker."
