SUNY Maritime No. 2 on list of military-friendly schools

The following is the text of a news release from the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College:

(THROGGS NECK, N.Y.) — SUNY Maritime College has been named second in the nation for its commitment to being military friendly.

The ranking is listed in the "2017 Guide to Military Friendly Schools," published by Victory Media.

The college has been recognized for its efforts to help veterans earn degrees by two publications designed to help former service men and women find colleges.

The college guide published by Military Advanced Education and Transition also includes SUNY Maritime as a top school in the nation. The ranking includes data from hundreds of public and private two- and four-year colleges across the nation.

“Maritime recently established a veterans center and an Office of Veteran and Military Affairs as part of an effort to help our nation’s servicemen and women earn college degrees and advance their careers,” said retired Maj. Gen. Bob Wolf, director of the office at SUNY Maritime. “These two designations are a testament to the fact that our concerted efforts are paying off and, more importantly, that we are meeting the needs of our veteran population.”

The Victory Media ranking is based on retention and graduation rates, job placement rates and loan repayment information, as well as the college’s participation in national veterans programs and initiatives.

Military Advanced rankings are based on campus culture, financial aid availability and campus veteran support services.

This is the second year in a row SUNY Maritime has been listed in Victory Media’s guide.

Victory Media and Military Advance Education have both continuously recognized SUNY Maritime for the college’s military-friendly policies and focus on veterans.
