New round of El Faro hearings focusing on cargo loading, lifeboats

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) — The U.S. Coast Guard has begun a second round of hearings into the sinking of the cargo ship El Faro, an incident in which 33 people were killed, television station WJXT reported. The 10 days of hearings will include testimony on technical issues including cargo loading, weather equipment and lifeboat-lowering equipment. One maritime lawyer said that on the ill-fated voyage El Faro was carrying more cargo than it had ever carried.
