Mississippi River reopened after barge grounding

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard reopened the Mississippi River from mile marker 194 to mile marker 190 on Saturday.

A grounded barge has been refloated and the waterway is open for normal traffic operations.

The river was previously closed from mile marker 194 to 190 when a barge went aground at mile marker 194 on Saturday near the entrance of the Chain of the Rocks Canal. The river was closed to all vessels during lightering operations.

The barge is being taken to a local facility for repairs.
