Kentucky school offers marine firefighting refresher

The following is the text of a news release from the Inland Logistics & Marine Institute:

(PADUCAH, Ky.) — The Inland Logistics & Marine Institute at West Kentucky Community & Technical College is offering an eight-hour refresher course in marine firefighting. The next class will be held July 6.

This course is designed to provide refresher training to mariners utilizing the latest equipment and simulators. Factors such as fire causes, associated dangers, welding, smoking, poor housekeeping and faulty equipment will be covered.

The course is designed to reacquaint mariners with specific duties and responsibilities related to firefighting. Participants will learn fire control theory covering prevention, detection and strategies of firefighting. The course also will include familiarization with the practical use and proper use of firefighting and associated equipment.
