Coast Guard Foundation presents Guardian Award to ExxonMobil

(STONINGTON, Conn.) — The Coast Guard Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced that its 2016 Guardian Award has been presented to ExxonMobil.

The Coast Guard Foundation’s Guardian Award recognizes individuals, companies and organizations that have provided significant support or have demonstrated exemplary commitment to the Coast Guard Foundation, U.S. Coast Guard personnel and families, or to other service members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Given just once a year, the Coast Guard Foundation Guardian Award is the Foundation’s premier national recognition.

“It is an honor to receive the 2016 Guardian Award from the distinguished leadership of the Coast Guard Foundation and to celebrate with so many who deeply respect our service men and women,” said Rex W. Tillerson, ExxonMobil chairman and chief executive officer, at the Coast Guard Foundation’s Houston Awards Dinner. “I consider it one of the great privileges of my position to accept this recognition on behalf of the men and women of the ExxonMobil Corp. It is a tribute to their focus, discipline and hard work, day in and day out, year after year.”

For more than 30 years, ExxonMobil has been a leading supporter of the Coast Guard Foundation’s most important strategic initiatives. The company has promoted programs that encourage diversity, STEM programming, and margin of excellence programs at the Coast Guard Academy, as well as provided significant support for the foundation’s scholarship program, which helps send the children of Coast Guard members to college. In recent years ExxonMobil focused its support on the foundation’s Fallen Heroes Fund. This program is critical to providing support for families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty, and to make sure their children attend college and graduate debt-free.

“Supporting our mission is more than just a priority for ExxonMobil, it is an integral part of its culture,” said Anne Brengle, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “We are grateful for their long-standing and steadfast commitment to the Coast Guard Foundation and our work to support the Coast Guard and its members.”
