Barge sinks in BC near site of tugboat grounding

(BELLA BELLA, British Columbia) — A barge carrying sand and gravel capsized in British Columbia's Inside Passage near the site of a tugboat grounding last month, CBC News reported. A spokesman for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said a U.S.-flagged tug was towing the barge from Seattle to Alaska when the cargo shifted, causing to barge to roll over. There were no injuries. The ATB tug Nathan E. Stewart sank near Bella Bella on Oct. 13, leaking an estimated 29,000 gallons of diesel.
