(OTTAWA) — Mike Corrigan is to become chief executive officer of Interferry on March 31, 2017, replacing interim CEO Darrell Bryan. Corrigan will leave as president and CEO of BC Ferries at the end of March and assume several roles at Interferry, including director and treasurer.

“His experience leading BC Ferries, one of the world’s largest ferry operators, means he comes to the position knowing firsthand what many of our members’ experience, and how regulations being set for deep-sea shipping are not always appropriate for ferry operations,” said Mike Grainger, Interferry chairman. “He has also served as an Interferry director for six years, most recently as treasurer, so he also knows the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead for the industry.”

“I am excited to be leading Interferry, advocate on behalf of our industry, focus efforts on passenger and operational safety and build the reputation of ferry operators around the world,” Corrigan said.

Interferry represents the international ferry industry on regulatory and policy matters. It represents more than 200 companies from 35 countries.

The Canadian Ferry Association congratulated Corrigan on his appointment.

“(The CFA) is very pleased to congratulate Mike Corrigan on this appointment and we are thrilled that a Canadian with his experience and knowledge will be leading international efforts for the ferry sector,” said Serge Buy, chief executive officer of the Canadian Ferry Association. “We look forward to working with Mike in this new capacity, starting next spring, and thank him for his leadership in advancing the ferry sector here in Canada.”
