World's first battery-powered electric ferry enters service

(LAVIK, Norway) — The world’s first battery-powered electric ferry has entered service in Norway, Energy & Environment Management magazine reported. The 262-foot Ampere is operated by Norled, which says the use of lithium-ion batteries will reduce the cost of fuel by up to 60 percent. Siemens installed the electric propulsion system and erected charging stations for the ferry.
