WR Systems names director of domestic maritime business

(NORFOLK, Va.) — WR Systems, the Virginia-based NAVCOM and maritime technology company, has named Mark Mahoney as the new director of domestic maritime business.

Mahoney comes to WR from Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine, where he spent almost 25 years honing his technical maritime expertise in a variety of roles, including marketing, contracts and compliance. His most recent position was service manager for the Americas region.

WR founded its Commercial Maritime Division on the established base of 25 years of support for U.S. Navy and other federal NAVCOM requirements. Employing over 350 staff, WR has now set its sights on becoming a leading global player in the commercial marine electronics supply, service and support sector.

WR President Dave Edwards noted the strategic importance of this key hire: “Mark has extensive experience in the maritime industry and came highly recommended to us. He is a unique mix of technical expertise, commercial insight and strategic thinking. He brings additional market knowledge and experience to our Commercial Maritime team; his role will be to lead the division to the next phase of our strategic business plan while ensuring we maintain our high levels of customer satisfaction.”

Mahoney, who will join WR in mid-January 2015, is eager to begin: “This is a fabulous opportunity for me to build on my experience. The team at WR are highly focused on where they see the business moving over the next few years and I am relishing the chance to be part of such a progressive organization. WR has a depth of capability built on many years of delivering NAVCOM excellence to the U.S. Navy. Leveraging that expertise was a major factor in my decision to join the WR team.”
