USS Ranger begins 16,000-mile voyage to Texas scrap yard

Ranger Aircaft Carrier Foss 304xx1632 1088 0 68

(BREMERTON, Wash.) — USS Ranger began its last voyage Thursday, bound from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard to a scrap yard in Texas, the Puget Sound Business Journal reported. The 1,046-foot aircraft carrier served for 37 years until it was decommissioned in 1993. Crosby Tugs of Golden Meadow, La., will tow Ranger around Cape Horn to the scrap yard because the carrier is too large to fit through the Panama Canal.
