New pilot law could bring more megayachts to Maryland

(ANNAPOLIS, Md.) — A new state law allows pleasure boats between 80 and 200 feet long and with a draft of less than 12 feet to move through state waters without bringing a licensed bay pilot on board, The Baltimore Sun reported. The "emergency" legislation was signed Tuesday by Gov. Larry Hogan in time for this year's boating season. The Association of Maryland Pilots supported the bill, said Capt. Eric Nielsen, the group's president.
