Four named as SNAME medalists for 2015

The following is a news release from the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME):

(ALEXANDRIA, Va.) — SNAME offers numerous awards in recognition of professional achievement within the maritime industry. The most prestigious of these awards are SNAME's medals. At this year's annual banquet, SNAME will formally recognize and present medals to four individuals for their outstanding contributions to naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering and maritime education. 

The David W. Taylor Medal
For notable achievement in naval architecture and/or marine engineering will be presented to Donald L. Blount, president, Donald L. Blount and Associates.

The Vice Admiral Emory S. "Jerry" Land Medal
For outstanding accomplishment in the marine field will be presented to Donald T. "Boysie" Bollinger, CEO, Bollinger Enterprises LLC.

The Blakely Smith Medal
For outstanding accomplishment in ocean engineeringwill be presented to Dr. Brian Malcolm Sharples, Offshore: Risk & Technology Consulting Inc. (ORTC)

The Webb Medal
For outstanding contributions to education in naval architecture, marine or ocean engineering will be presented to Dr. Alan J. Brown, NAVSEA professor of ship design, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

The SNAME annual banquet is always a highlight of the SNAME Maritime Convention and this year's triennial World Maritme Technology Conference (WMTC 2015). Following a hearty meal, SNAME presents its highest awards and honors, including SNAME medals. The banquet begins and ends with open receptions for guests to mingle.
