The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(ALAMEDA, Calif.) — A Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles air crew medically evacuated an injured crewmember from a vessel approximately 40 miles west of Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon.

Eleventh Coast Guard District personnel were notified Feb. 16 of a crewmember from the Hyundai Tacoma, a Liberian-flagged vessel, suffering an injury with possible broken bones approximately 880 miles west off the coast of Oregon. The medical crew aboard was able to stabilize the crewmember but recommended medical evacuation prior to their next port of call in Los Angeles on March 5.

Due to the proximity to Los Angeles, the Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended the crewmember be medically evacuated Sunday. At approximately 1 p.m., the Air Station Los Angeles air crew was launched and arrived on scene approximately two hours later. The man was hoisted and brought back to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at the air station.

The crewmember was reportedly in stable condition.
