Bay Shipbuilding gets new ATB contract

The following is the text of a news release from Fincantieri Marine Group:

(WASHINGTON and STURGEON BAY, Wis.) — Bay Shipbuilding Company (BSC), an operating division of Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG) located in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., has been awarded a contract for the new construction of an articulated tug-barge unit (ATB). The unit will consist of an 8,000-hp tug and a 155,000-barrel capacity barge. The award is for one ATB unit, with one additional option, and is scheduled for delivery in mid-2017.

In announcing the contract award, FMG President and CEO Francesco Valente noted: "We are very pleased with this new contract. This award is a testament to the quality ships built by Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding and FMG’s continued overall reputation and focus on delivering excellence and customer value to the U.S. market.”

Bay Shipbuilding Co. is one of three Great Lakes shipyards in the Fincantieri Marine Group. Bay specializes in the new construction of ATBs and OPA 90-compliant vessels, in sustainment of USCG Great Lakes icebreakers, and in repair, conversion and repowering of the Great Lakes bulk carrier fleet.
