Barge strikes bridge on swollen Tennessee River

(LEDBETTER, Ky.) — Strong currents caused by floodwaters pushed a barge tow into the U.S. 60 Tennessee River bridge Tuesday night, the West Kentucky Star reported. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, M/V Tennessee Hunter was pushing 15 empty hopper barges when the tow struck the main pier of the bridge. Vehicular traffic on the bridge was restricted to one lane for about 45 minutes to allow an inspector to check for damage.
