Appeals court awards $7 million in La. tugboat dispute

(NEW ORLEANS) — A federal appeals court has ruled that International Marine must pay $7 million to FDT, formerly Delta Marine, for violating a non-compete clause in a charter tugboat deal, the Daily Comet reported. The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday found that International Marine failed to uphold its end of an agreement after it purchased two tugs, Team and Skipper, from FDT in 2006. The dispute centered on International Marine’s obligation to notify FDT when it had offers to charter the boats.
