Saltchuk scuttles deal to move Foss shipyard

(SEATTLE) — Maritime conglomerate Saltchuk has dropped plans to buy a 66-acre property on Everett's waterfront to use as the new site for the Foss Maritime shipyard, The Seattle Times reported. While inspecting the former mill site, owned by Kimberly-Clark, Saltchuk found problems with soil stability and seismic and environmental conditions, a company spokeswoman said. The plan had been to move the shipyard to Everett but keep the Foss headquarters at Lake Union.
